# Ruby and Unicode

Nope, not the usual boring text encoding stuff, but this :

  1. #!ruby -Ku
  2. module Kernel
  3. def ∑( *args ) # Sum of
  4. args.inject( 0 ) { |i, j| i += j }
  5. end
  6. def √( number ) # Root of
  7. Math.sqrt( number )
  8. end
  9. end
  10. puts √(49)
  11. puts ∑(1,2,3,4,5)

Seriously cool. Idea stolen from here.

This photo was taken on August 11th, 1999, from Mir. It shows the moon’s shadow during the solar eclipse which occurred on that day over Europe and Asia. It’s thought that the shadow is above the English Channel, and that the two bright objects to the top-left of the photo are Jupiter and Saturn (Source).

There are some other unusual photos of Earth here.
